Steam generation is not a single component. It is an engineered system. Converting a heat source into steam at the temperatures, pressures, and flow rates a specific application requires involves the integration of heat exchangers, steam drums, superheaters, reheaters, economisers, piping, and controls. Each sized and configured to the operating conditions the plant will actually face.

Aalborg CSP has been engineering steam generation systems for close to four decades. Our design and engineering experience spans a wide range of heat sources and transfer media, including:

  • Molten salt: thermal energy storage discharge and CSP applications
  • Synthetic thermal oil: parabolic trough and industrial heat transfer circuits
  • Direct steam and pressurised water: direct steam generation and heat recovery configurations
  • Electric heating elements: Power-to-Heat and Carnot battery configurations
  • Flue gas and process exhaust: heat recovery in industrial and power cycle applications

That breadth is what makes the engineering credible. We have seen most of these configurations before, in operating plants around the world. When a project combines elements from different technology domains, we have the engineering depth on both sides of that integration.

Alongside our engineering work, Aalborg CSP is a founding partner in Alfa Laval Aalborg Header-Coil A/S — a joint venture with Alfa Laval developing header-and-coil heat exchangers specifically designed for the high-temperature, cyclic duties that thermal energy storage and renewable energy applications demand. Where this technology is the right fit for a project, we can draw on that expertise directly.
